Dear Friends of UC,
Our last email asked the community to contact our City of San Diego representatives requesting an extension from 45 days to 90 days to review the proposed Community Plan Update and its Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Thank you to those of you who did so!
We are aware that the Planning Department recently denied a similar request from the University City Planning Group. However, we still believe it is worthwhile to have as many people as possible email our City representatives with this request to demonstrate that this is important to our community. In our view, the answer isn’t final until the City actually issues the Plan Update and Draft EIR with the deadline.
Therefore, if you haven’t had an opportunity to do so yet, we ask that you send the following email (or similar) to the Planning Department and our City representatives asking for 90 days to review the proposed Plan Update and the associated Draft EIR.
Dear Mr. Galloway, Ms. Tomlins, Mayor Gloria, and Councilmembers LaCava and Lee:
Please give the members of the University City community 90 days to review the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the University Community Plan Update. The process to reach this point has taken more than 5 years, and the Draft EIR will be a lengthy and complicated document. The community has been very active in this process, and we require sufficient time to review the document, evaluate the findings, and prepare thoughtful comments. Please respect the idea that the community be included in the Plan Update process, which includes providing the community with sufficient time to review and evaluate this document. Forty-five days is simply not sufficient to conduct this effort, and we respectfully request a full 90 days (or more) for the comment period.
