Our Presentation at the May 16th Plan Update Meeting

Dear Neighbors,

After submitting our written comments to the City on May 4th regarding the Discussion Draft of the UC Plan, we presented the comments at the May 16th Community Plan Update Subcommittee meeting. Our Help Save UC comments focused mostly on the Vons and Sprouts shopping centers on Governor Drive, and included requests to:

  • Lower the proposed density at both shopping centers

  • Reduce the 100-foot height limit to 50 feet at Vons and 40 feet at Sprouts

  • Include at least 30-foot setbacks from rear and side property lines

  • Require at least one parking space on site for new residents, and

  • Include language to protect existing commercial services and require such services to be included in future projects.

Our Help Save UC presentation also raised concerns about the general increase in density (potentially doubling the community’s population) considering the lack of significant additional park space and the uncertainty that the City can implement the infrastructure necessary to support such increased density.

After reviewing the written comments and hearing the presentation, most Subcommittee members indicated support for Help Save UC’s proposed changes.
